Position: Human Resource (HR) Officer
Duty Station: Kathmandu
Performance Period: One-year fixed contract with possible extension. After a satisfactory performance in a three-month probation period, the contract would be provided.
Work Hours: Full-time; 40 hours per week
Reporting To: Programmes Director/Country Director
Role Summary
The HR Officer is a key contributor to the success of UWS Nepal, responsible for managing and supporting human resource functions. This role focuses on recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, organizational policy implementation, and performance management to ensure a motivated and productive workforce. By aligning HR practices with UWS Nepal’s mission to transform education in underserved communities, the HR Officer fosters a supportive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture.
Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Coordinate the full recruitment cycle, including drafting job descriptions, posting vacancies, shortlisting candidates, and scheduling interviews.
- Support hiring processes by participating in interviews and providing recommendations.
- Oversee the onboarding of new employees to ensure smooth integration into the organization.
- Maintain and update organizational job profiles and hiring protocols.
Employee Engagement and Development
- Plan and execute employee engagement initiatives to promote a positive work environment.
- Identify training needs and coordinate professional development opportunities.
- Support performance management, including appraisals and feedback processes, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR databases, ensuring confidentiality of employee records.
- Organize and manage organizational events such as training, orientation, and team-building activities.
Policy Implementation and Compliance
- Implement and enforce HR policies and procedures consistently across the organization.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and organizational standards.
- Regularly review and update employee records, including contracts, leave records, and benefits documentation.
- Assist in developing and updating HR systems and initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
Payroll and Benefits Management
- Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure accurate payroll processing and timely salary disbursement.
- Manage employee benefits programs and address related queries.
- Monitor leave balances, attendance, and adherence to leave policies.
Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, grievances, and conflict resolution.
- Promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and teamwork within the organization.
- Provide guidance and counseling on HR policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Professional qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of HR experience, preferably within the nonprofit or education sector.
Desired Skills & Competencies:
- Solid understanding of HR practices, labor laws, and compliance standards.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and HR management software/tools.
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management abilities.
- Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within a team and with diverse stakeholders.
