HOW CAN I APPLY TO THE UWS NEPAL TEACHING FELLOWSHIP?

The application for the UWS Nepal Fellowship Program opens on September 1, every year. You can apply by filling out the application form on our website.

WHAT IS THE UWS NEPAL TEACHING FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM ?

The UWS Nepal Teaching Fellowship is a two-year program designed to address educational challenges in hard-to-reach and under-resourced communities of Nepal. Working closely with UWS-aided community schools,  the Fellows uplift educational quality and address education inequality. Fellows are responsible to promote learning, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills among students, while also planning and implementing initiatives that improve the overall learning environment and life skills of the children.

As a Fellow, you will play a pivotal role in addressing educational inequality using innovative teaching methods and community engagement. In addition, you will also be fostering your personal and professional growth. Through comprehensive and experiential training you will be able to cultivate leadership skills and become a catalyst for systemic change.

WHO DO WE TEACH AND WHERE? 

Fellows work with UWS Nepal’s partner Community schools in one of the three districts – Sankhuwasabha, Gulmi, and Taplejung. The fellows will teach either English or Mathematics to children at the basic level at UWS partner schools. The fellows will also impart essential life skills to the students and promote their holistic growth through extracurricular activities. 

WHEN WILL WE BE PLACED IN OUR WORK STATIONS?

The Fellows will be placed at their designated schools starting Baishakh 2081 BS, at the beginning of the new academic session.

DO FELLOWS RECEIVE A STIPEND? ARE THERE OTHER BENEFITS?

UWS Nepal Teaching Fellowship is a full-time program, and Fellows will be paid NPR 22,500 monthly. Additional benefits include, Food and accommodation facilities will be looked after by the village/community the fellows are placed in. Two- way travel expenses will be covered three times a year. Health insurance upto Rs. 1,00,000 (one lakh), an OPD claim worth Rs. 10,000 (ten thousand) annually and accidental benefits upto Rs. 7,00,000 (7 lakhs).

The UWS Nepal Teaching Fellowship is a unique program that takes a modern approach to education. Fellows are encouraged to use experiential and hands-on learning methods, and to foster collaborative relationships with students, teachers, parents, and community leaders. This approach goes beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on the community’s educational landscape.

WHAT SETS THE UWS NEPAL FELLOWSHIP APART FROM OTHER FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES?

The UWS Nepal Teaching Fellowship is specifically tailored to address the unique challenges of education in under-resourced regions of Nepal. The program combines four key components: Teaching: Fellows will have the opportunity to teach in a Nepali school, where they will be exposed to the challenges and opportunities of teaching in an under-resourced setting; Community engagement: Fellows will be encouraged to get involved in the local community, working with students, teachers, parents, and community leaders to address the challenges facing education in the region; Leadership development: Fellows will participate in leadership development workshops and activities, which will help them to develop the skills and knowledge they need to be effective educators and leaders; Cross-cultural exchange: Fellows will have the opportunity to live and work in one of the districts, which will give them a unique opportunity to learn about the communities culture and society.

HOW WILL THE UWS NEPAL TEACHING FELLOWSHIP EXPERIENCE HELP ME GROW PROFESSIONALLY?

You will receive extensive training in teaching methods, classroom management, community participation, communication, and more, preparing you for leadership roles and challenges in the field of education. Additionally, the fellowship provides exposure to the grassroots realities of the educational system in Nepal, allowing you to become an advocate for systemic change.

CAN I CONTINUE WORKING WITH UWS NEPAL AFTER THE FELLOWSHIP?

The Fellowship Program’s impact extends beyond just two years on the field. Upon finishing the fellowship program, you will become part of a supportive alumni network. This program will unlock pathways to new opportunities for personal and professional growth, including scholarships, and job referrals, in addition to the knowledge and experiences gained during the journey. Many of our fellows continue their journey with UWS Nepal in various positions. The fellowship program opens doors to new opportunities within the organisation.
