Education Against All Odds

Vidushi (name changed), a 13-year-old girl from India, faces many challenges in her upbringing. Born into a family struggling with economic hardship, Vidushi attends UWS Baraharukh in Gulmi. She stands out as one of the brightest students with aspirations of becoming an English teacher.
Her parents rely on small-scale farming and animal husbandry to make a livelihood. Despite their own struggles, they prioritise Vidushi’s education, recognizing it as a pathway to a brighter future.
Vidushi’s day begins at 5 in the morning, as she helps with household chores before heading to school. After returning home, she dedicates three hours to studying and completing her homework, with her parents ensuring she is not burdened with additional responsibilities during exam periods.
In addition to her studies, Vidushi lends a hand to her parents in the fields and kitchen, demonstrating her commitment to both her family and her education. Her parents, envisioning a better life for their daughter, encourage her dreams of success and stability, hoping she will not have to endure the hardships they have faced.
Inspired by her school’s dedicated English teacher, Laxmi Lamsal, Vidushi dreams of following in their footsteps and becoming an educator herself. Their guidance and support have ignited a passion within her, driving her towards her goal of teaching and inspiring future generations.
Vidushi’s journey stands as proof of how education can change lives and the strength of the human spirit. Even in the face of challenges, she stays in her quest for a better tomorrow, driven by her family’s care, and her teachers’ encouragement.
